From Mötley to Stylish

VEGASGOLFER MAGAZINE
If there were ever a mold, a stereotype of the self-absorbed rock 'n' roller, Mötley Crüe lead singer Vince Neil breaks it. Oh, sure, when we met the 45-year-old bad boy recently at Bali Hai Golf Club on the Strip, he sported the requisite long hair and the tattoos, the sleeveless T-shirt and King's ransom in bling. He still looked like the blonde-haired surfer boy that millions of fans know him as, but the tattoos, hairstyle, clothing and jewelrythat's all just appearance. Let's talk essence. Neil is a guy who plays golf. In fact, his first Vegas home was on the third hole of the old Desert Inn Golf Course.
"I started in 1985," he says. "Our tour manager was an avid golfer, and we were staying at the Four Seasons outside Dallas, where they have a TPC course, Los something. And I rented some clubs, and it was fun, and I actually bought my first clubs there at the pro shop. And I dug it, so then I played every time that I could. We'd play almost every day, because most of the places where we stayed were on golf resorts."
The rest of Mötley Crüe gave him a good ribbing (and still do), and a good publicist might have warned that playing golf could threaten the band's counterculture image and record sales. But Neil didn't care about any of that, and today he owns eight sets of golf clubs.
"It's a great hobby," he says. "And something you can do when you're on the road, because you know every place has a golf course. The only tough part is when you're touring in the winter."
Besides countless rounds with his tour manager and members of Crüe's road crew, Neil has also looped with elder rock statesmen Alice Cooper, Meatloaf and Huey Lewis.
"Each one kind of made it cool," he says. "And we started the rock 'n' roll golf tournament. For rock guys, it was cool again to play."
Ask Neil what drew him to music and you get a pretty cool story, too, and again, not at all what you might expect ...

Vince Neil presented a One Million Dollar commemorative check to the T.J. Martell Foundation at the 10th Annual Skylar Neil Memorial Golf Tournament on May 5, 2006, in Simi Valley, CA. The check represents the over one million dollars Vince Neil has raised over the past ten years for the T.J. Martell Foundation in memory of his late daughter, Skylar. It and it's sister stand were used at every show that Motley Crue did including Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia and Hawaii with the exception of Live 8 up to February 25th in Kalamazoo, MI.
Upon delivery, this shiny microphone stand was "Antiqued" by Nikki Sixx with spray paint and sandpaper to give it it's current dull look.
Item was signed on the base by Nikki Sixx and Vince Neil at the Kalamazoo MI. Show.
All proceeds from the sale of this item are going to the Skylar Neil Memorial fund

Hollywood Walk Of Fame
MÖTLEY CRÜE received the 2,301st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the band's founding.
Band members Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx attended the late-morning ceremony in front of the Musicians Institute.
"We're across the street from the Erotica Museum and FrederickÂ?s of Hollywood. This is a perfect place for us to be," bassist Sixx told an estimated 600 screaming fans.
Speaking to Launch, Sixx said the band is thrilled with the honor. "Listen, it's nice to be recognized for your work," he said. "We are from Hollywood. You know that's where we started. It's where we played our first gigs. In a sense it's kind of fitting. You know we fit in there with all the dead movie stars."

MÖTLEY CRÜE SINGER INJURED, BUT THE SHOW WILL GO ON
9.17.05 - Vince Neil tears a calf muscle in Atlanta, but Crüe "Carnival of Sins" tour won't miss a beat
ATLANTA, GA - Mötley Crüe won't let a little muscle tear get in the way of its rock & roll juggernaut.
Despite an erroneous wire service report that he broke his leg, the band's lead singer Vince Neil partially tore the medial portion of his calf muscle last night five songs into Crüe's performance at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, GA. The show was part of the band's ongoing, successful "Carnival of Sins" world tour that began last February.
Vince's leg gave out shortly before intermission, and the band was forced to end the concert early after Neil was taken to a nearby hospital. Although he was in a great deal of pain at the time, Neil is expected to make a full and quick recovery, according to his doctors, who nevertheless urged him to take some time off. The band intends to return to Atlanta to make-up the show. Tickets from last night's show will be honored at that time. Ticket holders should contact their point of purchase for more information or refunds.
"I just felt something snap in my leg," recalls Neil. "I just couldn't go on."
Nevertheless, Neil is planning to return to the stage Sunday night (9/18) in Memphis, TN, for Mötley Crüe's show at Desota Arena, despite doctor's orders. No shows will be canceled. "I'm a trooper," said Neil.
Said the band's Nikki Sixx: "He will be able to perform, but can't really jump around until it heals. Luckily, we have a few days off here and there for him to recover."
The Mötley Crüe tour has been the unexpected success story of the live concert year. After
six years apart, the band reunited earlier this year for a tour that has been one of the biggest box office attractions of 2005.
Following the end of their own U.S. tour in October, the Crue will join the Rolling Stones for shows in Portland and Seattle, then Mötley Crüe will go on to Australia and Japan.
After their appearance on last weekend's MTV/VH1/CMT "ReAct Now" benefit from Nashville, Mötley Crüe will release a new recording of their hit, "Home Sweet Home," which they performed on the show with Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, a gospel choir and string section, produced by Desmond Child. Proceeds from the song will go to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina and the efforts to rebuild the affected communities through Red Cross.
Tracey Gardner-Tetso update
Video footage of family and friends of a missing Maryland woman meeting MÖTLEY CRÜE's Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx backstage before the band's August 14 concert at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Va. to personally thank them for offering $10,000 toward Tracey Tetso's reward fund has been posted online at the "America's Most Wanted" web site (free registration required).
"They were really sincere; it was cool to come meet them and thank them for their help," Monika Barilla, a longtime friend of Tetso's who has helped to organize search parties for the missing woman, told the North East Booster.
"They said it was not about publicity for them and it was never an issue about money for them," said Laura Smith, another friend of Tetso's who attended the concert. "When they found out she was missing and how much of a fan she was, their main goal was to try to get her as much attention as possible."
Tetso, 33, has been missing since March 6, when she was supposed to attend a MÖTLEY CRÜE concert in Washington and never showed up.
Tracey Gardner-Tetso is described as white, 5 feet 4, 130 pounds, with long blond hair and blue eyes. She was last seen driving a 1996 black Pontiac Trans Am, with tinted windows and Maryland tags LRN 534, according to The Baltimore Sun.
Baltimore County police said last month that they have not identified any suspects. The case is being treated as a missing person's file with possible foul play, according to police spokesman Bill Toohey.
MÖTLEY CRÜE in April announced that they would match the $10,000 reward fund being offered for information on the whereabouts of Gardner-Tetso, who was reported missing by her husband. The reward is being offered by the Victims' Rights Foundation of Gaithersburg, Metro Crime Stoppers and Aggregate Industries, which employed Gardner-Tetso as a dispatcher. Anyone with information should call Baltimore County police at 410-307-2020.
Fox's "America's Most Wanted: America Fights Back", which ran the original report on Tracey's disappearance on May 14, aired an update as part of their August 20, 2005 episode.
